Your Itinerary
Day 1 - Core Wildlife Areas
Block 1 Morning Safari
Focus on the main wildlife corridors including Palatupana and Buttawa areas. This block has over 30 leopards and offers the best chances for big cat encounters, plus regular elephant herds.
Magul Maha Viharaya
Explore ruins of this ancient temple where King Kavantissa once ruled. The site includes stone pillars and dagoba foundations scattered through the forest, showing how civilization once thrived here.
Evening Safari Block 1
Return for afternoon wildlife viewing when temperatures cool. Focus on water holes where animals gather, and the coastal areas where leopards hunt. Evening light provides excellent photography conditions.
Day 2 - Extended Park Areas
Block 2 and 3 Safari
Venture into less crowded sections of the park for different landscapes including grasslands and rocky outcrops. These blocks have good elephant populations and bird diversity including painted storks and peacocks.
Kirinda Temple and Beach
Visit the coastal temple dedicated to Queen Viharamahadevi and walk along the fishing beach. Local fishermen bring in daily catches here, and the temple offers views over the Indian Ocean.
Bundala National Park
This nearby wetland park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve famous for migratory birds. Over 200 species include flamingos, pelicans, and painted storks, plus crocodiles and elephants in different habitat from Yala.
