Discover the ancient city of Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in history. Wander through vast archaeological sites, where towering stupas and ancient temples like the Ruwanweliseya stand as testaments to Sri Lanka's rich past. Visit the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi, a revered tree believed to be a sapling of the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Take time to explore the tranquil ponds, man-made tanks and ruins that once thrived as a bustling capital. In the afternoon, stroll along the ancient stone paths, surrounded by statues and relics, and feel the weight of centuries of culture.

Begin your journey at the Dambulla Cave Temple, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in the hills. Explore the intricate Buddhist murals and statues inside the caves, which date back over 2,000 years. The peaceful surroundings offer a glimpse into Sri Lanka's spiritual heritage. In the afternoon, head to Sigiriya, where the iconic rock fortress rises majestically above the landscape. Climb the steps to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding jungle and lakes. Admire the ancient frescoes, the Mirror Wall and the lion's paw at the entrance. As the sun sets, the rock transforms into a breathtaking silhouette against the horizon.

Start your day at the serene shores of Pasikuda, known for its wide, golden beach and calm, turquoise waters. This coastal gem is perfect for a relaxing swim or a leisurely stroll along the shore. The shallow waters make it ideal for snorkelling and enjoying vibrant marine life. Later, take some time to unwind under the shade of palm trees or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere with a good book. If you are in the mood for adventure, try water sports like kayaking or windsurfing. As the afternoon rolls in, relax by a beachfront cafe, enjoying fresh seafood while watching the waves gently lap the shore.

Begin your exploration of Kandy with a city tour, wandering through its lively streets, where colonial architecture blends with modern shops and local markets. Take in the rich cultural atmosphere of the city, where you will find an abundance of traditional handicrafts and local art. Next, head to some of the stunning viewpoints around Kandy, offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding hills. Continue your journey to Peradeniya, home to the Royal Botanical Gardens. Take a leisurely walk through the expansive gardens, filled with tropical flowers, towering trees, and unique plant species.
Explore Kandy
On your second day in Kandy, start with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a sacred site that houses a revered relic of Buddha. Admire the intricate architecture and the serene atmosphere that surrounds this important pilgrimage destination. Afterward, take a peaceful stroll around Kandy Lake, which lies just next to the temple. Enjoy the calm waters, framed by lush greenery and the backdrop of the city's hills. Upon arrival, venture into Udawalawe National Park, renowned for its large population of wild elephants. Take a thrilling 4x4 safari through the park, where you will encounter not only elephants but also deer, wild boar, and an array of bird species. Finish your safari with unforgettable memories of the park's natural beauty and abundant wildlife.

After your exciting safari in Udawalawe, enjoy a relaxing rest day in Tangalle. The drive from Udawalawe to Tangalle takes you through scenic coastal roads with rural views of villages, tranquil beaches and lush vegetation. In Tangalle, unwind on the peaceful golden sands, perfect for a day of relaxation by the Indian Ocean. Take a leisurely walk along the beach or simply lounge under the shade of a palm tree with a refreshing drink. You can also visit nearby lagoons or explore the small fishing villages that dot the coast. This serene day offers the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate and enjoy the natural beauty of Sri Lanka's southern coastline.

Leave the serene beaches of Tangalle behind and set off for a day trip to Matara. On the way, make a stop at Turtle Point Bathigama, where you might catch a glimpse of sea turtles in their natural habitat or even bathe in the gentle waters. Continue your journey to Matara, where Polhena Beach awaits. Its calm, shallow waters make it perfect for a swim, while the surrounding reefs offer fantastic snorkelling opportunities. Visit Paravi Duwa Temple, a sacred island sanctuary connected to the mainland by a footbridge. Take a moment to reflect, enjoy the ocean views, and admire the intricate Buddhist architecture.

Start the day with a scenic drive from Matara to Galle, pausing along the way to witness the iconic stilt fishermen, masters of balance and patience who still practise their unique fishing techniques. Next, stop at Madol Duwa, a small island rich in literary and historical charm. Take in the views and let your imagination wander. Arrive in Galle and explore the iconic Galle Fort. Wander the charming streets, discover cosy cafes, browse colourful boutiques, explore the fascinating museums and art galleries and enjoy the sunset near the beach. The Fort's vibrant blend of history and culture promises a day full of discovery and relaxation.

Tour Overview
Fourteen days tracing Sri Lanka's coastline, from the calm turquoise shallows of Pasikuda on the east coast to the dramatic surf breaks of Ahungalla on the west, with ancient cities, hill-country tea estates, and an elephant safari woven in between. This is not a beach holiday where you sit in one resort for two weeks. It is a moving journey along one of the most varied coastlines in Asia.
Each beach on this tour has a different character. Pasikuda is flat, warm, and sheltered, the kind of place where you can wade out for hundreds of metres and still be only waist-deep. Tangalle is wild and empty, backed by coconut palms and fishing villages where the pace of life has barely changed in decades. Galle sits behind the walls of a 400-year-old Dutch fort, its streets lined with boutique cafes and colonial architecture. Ahungalla has surf, river safaris, and the mask-making tradition of nearby Ambalangoda.
The non-beach days are what elevate this tour beyond a standard coastal holiday. You climb Sigiriya. You walk the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura. You ride the train through Ella's tea country. You track wild elephants at Udawalawe. These are not filler days, they are the reason this tour stays interesting from the first afternoon in Negombo to the last sunset at Galle Face Green.
What Makes This Tour Special
Most Sri Lanka beach tours stick to the south coast and call it done. This one starts on the east coast at Pasikuda, a beach that most international visitors have never heard of, and works its way around through the interior before reaching the south. That means you get beaches on two different coastlines with completely different seasons, moods, and landscapes.
The Tangalle section is the heart of the tour. Two nights at one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Sri Lanka, with nothing to do but swim, read, eat fresh seafood, and watch the waves. It is positioned right after the Udawalawe safari, so you arrive genuinely ready to do nothing, and the contrast between jeep-bumping through elephant country and lying on an empty beach makes both experiences feel more vivid.
The Ahungalla day is unlike anything on the rest of the tour. You float down the Madu River through mangrove tunnels, visit a cinnamon house where the bark is still peeled by hand, try a fish pedicure spa, and explore the mask museum in Ambalangoda. It is quirky, fun, and totally Sri Lankan, the kind of day you tell people about when they ask what the trip was really like.
