A small rocky outcrop accessible by swimming or kayak during low tide, located about 100 meters from the main beach. The island offers excellent snorkeling with coral formations and tropical fish, plus secluded spots for sunbathing away from the main beach crowds. It sits in Unawatuna's Unawatuna Bay, close to the other main sights. It ranks among Unawatuna's most visited sights, and for good reason - most itineraries include it on day one. Tickets cost Free (kayak rental approximately 1,500 LKR per hour) and 2-3 hours is enough to see everything without rushing.
What It Is
What you experience depends on the season. Spring and summer are the strongest months, but even in winter the grounds have a quiet appeal. Dress for the weather - you are outdoors the entire time.
Why Visit
Secluded snorkeling spot with coral reefs and fewer crowds. That puts it near the top of any Unawatuna visit, and it deserves the spot. Combine it with Unawatuna Beach and Dalawella Beach - they are close enough to walk between and together make the strongest half-day in Unawatuna. Mornings are quieter if you want to take your time.
