Dalawella Beach is a small, scenic beach about 2 kilometres east of Unawatuna, best known for its Instagram-famous palm tree rope swing. The swing hangs from a palm tree leaning over the sand, and a photo of yourself swinging with the ocean behind has become one of Sri Lanka's most recognisable travel images. Beyond the social media appeal, the beach is genuinely pretty with calm water good for swimming.
What It Is
A small golden-sand beach with a famous rope swing hanging from a leaning palm tree over the water's edge. The beach is quieter than nearby Unawatuna and has good swimming conditions in season.
Why Visit
If you want the classic Sri Lanka rope swing photo, this is the place. Beyond that, it is a genuinely pleasant beach that is less crowded than Unawatuna and good for a relaxed morning or afternoon.
