Day 1 - Town and Tea Culture
Nuwara Eliya Post Office
Colonial-era red brick building still functioning as main post office. Send postcards with special Nuwara Eliya postmark and see British architectural details preserved since 1894.
Central Market
Local produce market with fresh vegetables grown in cool climate including carrots, leeks, and strawberries. Good for understanding local agriculture and buying fresh fruit at low prices.
Mackwoods Labookellie Tea Estate
Large commercial tea estate with comprehensive factory tour and chocolate cake tasting session. More tourist-oriented than smaller estates but good introduction to tea processing with reliable English-speaking guides.
Day 2 - Horton Plains Expedition
Horton Plains National Park
Complete 9km circuit including World's End viewpoint and Baker's Falls. Early start essential before clouds obscure views. Unique cloud forest ecosystem with endemic species and dramatic cliff-edge viewpoints.
Ramboda Falls
Three-tier waterfall visible from main road with short hiking trail to base. Height of 109 meters makes it one of higher waterfalls in area, though water flow varies significantly by season.
Gregory Lake Evening Walk
Quiet evening walk around lake perimeter when day crowds have gone. Good for reflection after long hiking day, though lake is artificial and quite small at just 2km circumference.
Day 3 - Waterfalls and Gardens
Bomburu Ella Waterfall
Hike 2km through tea plantations to reach this lesser-known waterfall. More effort required than Ramboda Falls but fewer crowds and better swimming opportunities in natural pools at base.
Hakgala Botanical Garden
Walk terraced gardens at high altitude with temperate climate plants rarely seen elsewhere in Sri Lanka. Rose garden sections particularly good during flowering season from December to March.
Strawberries by Jagro
Strawberry farm and cafe offering fresh strawberries, strawberry ice cream, and strawberry-flavored products. Touristy but strawberries are genuinely fresh and prices reasonable for the area.
