Colombo Itinerary
Two Days in Colombo
A practical Colombo itinerary with times and what to skip.
Best for History buffs, first-time visitors to Sri Lanka wanting a proper orientation before heading south or inland
Your Itinerary
Day 1 - Colonial Colombo and the Seafront
Colombo National Museum
Sri Lanka's largest museum, with royal regalia from the last Kandyan king and a solid collection of ancient stone carvings. Go early before tour groups arrive.
Independence Memorial Hall
A pillared memorial hall modelled on a Kandyan audience chamber, now surrounded by a park popular with joggers and students. Quick stop rather than a highlight.
Galle Face Green
Return at dusk for kite-flying, street food, and the best free sunset in the city.
Day 2 - Markets, Temples, and Mount Lavinia
Pettah Market
A dense, un-sanitized wholesale market sprawling through narrow lanes near the harbour, selling spices, electronics, and fabric. Go early before the heat and crowds peak; watch your bag.
Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara
A temple complex 10km from central Colombo, said to mark a Buddha visit site, with vivid painted murals depicting Jataka tales. Less crowded than city-centre temples.
Mount Lavinia Beach
Good for a late swim and seafood dinner before dark.
