Dive into Sri Lanka’s top amusement parks
There aren’t a lot of amusement parks in Sri Lanka. But the few the island does have promise a fun day to all involved. Boy, are you in for a surprise if you expect to see Disneyland-level amusement parks in Sri Lanka. ’cause we don’t have ’em. And probably never will. At least, not anytime soon. Why? Who knows (cue the defeated shrug of the adventure-deprived).
Enjoy the few adventure parks in Sri Lanka
Leisure World - the first amusement park in Sri Lanka
I remember the excitement my friends and I shared when Leisure World opened. Each year we plotted (unsuccessfully) to go there for our class trip. Skipping the trip down memory lane… Leisure World is a sprawling park located in Awissawella. The park offers both water rides and amusement activities. Thanks to the amount of fun it offers, it’s perfect for families. Most of the activities happen in/out/around water. So you need to pack your swimsuit (modest ones). Be sure to check out the water slides and the wave pool during your visit! If you are uncomfortable with co-ed water rides, there is also a pool that only ladies can use.
Guruge park - fun for every family member
Guruge Nature Park is both fun and educational. It somehow manages to find a delicate balance between being a water park and an immersive history park. The Mayan Water Park is truly a wonder, using modern technology to its best advantage. It looks stunning, especially at night, when the entire area is lit with bright lights.

Che Adventure Park - an amusement park in Sri Lanka unlike any other
Che Adventure Park is in a category of its own. The park will appeal to anyone who wants to enjoy more physical activities like archery, mountain biking, water rafting, rock climbing, etc. This amusement park is located in Sri Lanka’s Colombo District. But, as its range of activities suggests, the park has a range of territories. It’s somewhat difficult to believe that it’s just 35 kilometres away from Colombo, on the banks of the Kelani River in Hanwella!
Let your competitive side out
Excel World Entertainment Park
A lot of amusement parks in Sri Lanka are located away from Colombo. Given that parks need a lot of space to spread out, that’s not a surprise. But it does mean a lot of travel time. If you want to experience what amusement parks in Sri Lanka are all about, that’s a bummer. But don’t get discouraged. There’s an amusement park right in the heart of Colombo that you can visit – Excel World! The annual snow show the park hosts in December is a magical event of its own. The event dates back to my childhood, though I can’t remember when it first began. I CAN tell you that it was a big deal, especially in a country that doesn’t experience winter! The park also has a great bowling alley. It’s a great place to hang out with your friends, or even to go on a date if a movie is too boring for you. The adventure activity section, however, is pretty unimpressive. Kids would go crazy over the various rides, for sure. But there’s not a lot that would appeal to adults, though.
Flying Ravana Adventure Park
If you need more reasons to visit Ella, here’s one – the Flying Ravana Adventure Park. To call it an amusement park is a disservice. It truly lives up to its name in that it is an adventure wrapped up in stunning scenery! The biggest draw of the park?
