A small, well-organized museum near the main entrance holding pottery, jewellery, and a scale model of the rock fortress as it would have looked in the 5th century. It's a 15-minute stop that most visitors skip but that makes the climb easier to understand, especially the layout of the vanished palace. It is at Sigiriya Village & Inamaluwa Strip, close to the other main sights. It ranks among Sigiriya's most visited sights, and for good reason - most itineraries include it on day one.
What It Is
A single-level, climate-controlled gallery with glass cases of excavated artifacts and a large wooden model showing the palace, gardens, and moats as a complete complex.
Why Visit
It turns the climb from a workout into a visit to a specific, reconstructed royal complex, which changes how you see the ruins at the top. That puts it near the top of any Sigiriya visit, and it deserves the spot. Combine it with Sigiriya Rock (Lion Rock) - they are close enough to walk between and together make the strongest half-day in Sigiriya.
