Kandalama Lake Viewpoint is a viewpoint in Sigiriya's Kandalama. It sits below the headline sights but earns its place on a longer visit to Sigiriya. Entry is free and 1-2 hours gives you a thorough visit.
What It Is
You sit on an open terrace built into rock and jungle, overlooking still water and forested hills, with the hotel's camouflaged architecture blending so fully into the hillside it's barely visible from the lake itself.
Why Visit
It's a calm counterpoint to the climbing and crowds of Sigiriya, with genuine architecture and wildlife worth the detour. It is not the first thing you should see in Sigiriya, but with two or more days it fills a gap the major sights leave. Afternoon tends to work best here.
