Ohiya Railway Station is a small, remote station on the Colombo-Badulla line, perched at 1,775 metres elevation in the cloud forest near Horton Plains National Park. The station sees few tourists compared to Ella or Nanu Oya, giving it an atmospheric, end-of-the-world quality that railway enthusiasts and photographers appreciate.
What It Is
A tiny railway station with a single platform, set among cloud forest and tea plantations at high elevation. Only a few trains stop here each day, adding to the remote atmosphere.
Why Visit
The station itself is atmospheric and photogenic, especially in the early morning mist. It also serves as a practical starting point for visiting Horton Plains if you want to arrive by train rather than by car.
