This 6.5-hour railway journey covers 117 kilometers through Sri Lanka's central highlands, passing tea plantations, waterfalls, and mountain tunnels. The route, built in 1924, climbs from 500 meters to 1,041 meters elevation through some of the country's most scenic landscapes. It sits in Ella's Ella Railway Station, close to the other main sights. It ranks among Ella's most visited sights, and for good reason - most itineraries include it on day one. Tickets cost 1st class reserved seats 1,500 LKR, 2nd class 400 LKR, 3rd class 180 LKR and 6.5 hours is enough to see everything without rushing.
