Day-by-Day Itinerary
7 days of adventure

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and travel to Colombo. Once you are refreshed, embark on an exciting tour of the city to see what makes it tick!

Step into the cultural heart of Sri Lanka as you explore the ancient wonders of Dambulla and Sigiriya. Begin with the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, where golden Buddha statues and vibrant murals fill centuries-old chambers carved into the hillside. Marvel at the sacred site's spiritual calm. Then venture to the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a colossal citadel rising from the jungle floor. Ascend through massive lion paws carved in stone and take the winding stairways that lead to panoramic views of lush landscapes below. Discover the remnants of royal gardens, frescoes, and water features that tell tales of a lost kingdom.

Venture into the wild beauty of Minneriya National Park, a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. The park is famous for its massive gatherings of elephants, especially during the dry season, when herds gather around the park's central tank. Take a jeep safari through the park's diverse landscapes, from open grasslands and scrublands to wetlands and thick forests. Catch sight of exotic birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. Explore the ancient ruins scattered within the park, remnants of an ancient civilisation. As the day draws to a close, pause to witness the stunning golden light reflecting off the tranquil waters of the tank.

Start your day in Kandy by visiting the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Admire the intricate architecture and serene atmosphere. Next, take a leisurely stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, where you can explore lush landscapes and vibrant flora. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on Kandy Lake, soaking in the picturesque views of the surrounding hills. Visit a local handicraft shop to pick up souvenirs, then head to the Kandy Cultural Centre for a lively traditional dance performance. End your day by experiencing the cool evening breeze at the picturesque Udawattekele Forest Reserve.
Explore Kandy
Start your day early with a scenic train ride to Ella, passing through lush green landscapes and picturesque tea plantations. Upon arrival, take a short hike to the famous Nine Arch Bridge, marvelling at the stunning views. Afterward, explore the tranquil Ravana Falls, which is perfect for a refreshing stop. In the afternoon, head to Udawalawe National Park for an exciting jeep safari. Keep an eye out for herds of elephants and other wildlife, as well as the park's diverse bird species. End your adventurous day with a visit to the Udawalawe Reservoir, where you can enjoy a peaceful sunset by the water.
Explore Udawalawe
Begin your day in Unawatuna with a relaxing visit to the golden sands of Unawatuna Beach, perfect for swimming or enjoying water sports. After some time by the sea, take a short trip through the jungle to the nearby Japanese Peace Pagoda, which offers serene views over the coastline. Explore the charming streets lined with local shops and cafes before heading to Galle to wander through the historic Galle Dutch Fort, with its narrow streets filled with boutiques, cafes, and museums. Wrap up your day with a breathtaking sunset at the Galle Lighthouse.
Explore Galle
Proceed to Negombo before heading to the airport. Stop at a turtle hatchery to observe young hatchlings and mature adults who are vulnerable to predators. The conservation projects aim to help these turtles recover before being released back to the sea. Afterwards, take a river safari along the Madu River to Negombo. Once in Negombo, take the time to enjoy a city tour and discover the unique charm of Sri Lanka's 'Little Rome'. Explore the quaint churches, serene beaches and the modernity of the town. After the city tour, head towards the expressway to reach Bandaranaike International Airport with enough time for last-minute shopping before your flight home.
Tour Overview
Seven days, four different Sri Lankas. This tour is built for people who have one week and want to come home feeling like they genuinely experienced the island rather than just scratching the surface. You start in the ancient cities, move through the hill country, track wild elephants on safari, and finish on the south coast with sand between your toes and a Galle Fort sunset to close it out.
The pace is deliberate. Each day has a clear focus rather than trying to cram three attractions before lunch. Sigiriya gets a full morning to itself. Kandy gets a proper day with the temple, the gardens, and the dance show in the evening. The Ella to Udawalawe day is the longest, but you are rewarded with one of the world's great train rides in the morning and a safari as the light turns golden in the afternoon.
This is our most popular tour for first-time visitors, and for good reason. It covers every side of Sri Lanka in a week without ever feeling like you are on a treadmill.
What Makes This Tour Special
Most seven-day Sri Lanka itineraries force a choice between culture and coast, or between wildlife and beaches. This one refuses to compromise. You get all four of Sri Lanka's great draws in a single week: ancient ruins at Sigiriya, a sacred temple in Kandy, wild elephants at Minneriya and Udawalawe, and palm-fringed beach time at Unawatuna.
The secret is geography. The route traces a natural loop from Colombo south through the Cultural Triangle, across the hill country, and down to the coast, so you are always moving forward rather than doubling back. Travel days are kept under four hours, and your private driver handles the logistics while you watch the countryside change from golden plains to emerald hills to tropical coastline.
Families love this tour because it moves at a pace that works for all ages. There is enough action to keep teenagers engaged and enough downtime to keep grandparents comfortable. The elephant safari at Minneriya is the moment most kids remember years later, and the turtle hatchery on the final day is a quiet, lovely way to close out the trip.
Who This Tour Is For
If you have exactly one week and this is your first time in Sri Lanka, this is the tour to book. It gives you the headlines without the exhaustion. Couples, families, solo travellers, and small groups all work well on this itinerary. The only people it might not suit are those who want a deep dive into one region or an extended beach holiday, for those, we have longer tours that spend more time in each place.
